Educate ourself to be greener
Our aim is to create a new generation that is concerned with sustainability.
Sustainability activities
UUM encourages its staff and students’ involvement in green and sustainability activities for the purpose of fostering awareness on the importance of the environment. The UUM Strategic Plan will oversee this activity.
Research
The university is offering the Development and Ecosystem Research Grant Scheme (DEcoR), to encourage research activities through co-design and co-production of solution to drive sustainable development and ecosystems within the UUM campus. DEcoR scheme research could stimulate the generation of knowledge and the sharing of expertise that can produce research results that can be executed for the well-being of the campus community in particular, and the country in general.
Courses offer
Go green practises are not only for facilities provided but also incorporated in several courses at UUM. UUM has taken the environment and sustainability as its primary concern and has encouraged schools to inculcate the importance in relevant courses. The courses that are offered by the University which aims to embed sustainability into all courses and content modules. Some of the subjects offered are included in the University Core, the Program and Elective Core which can be embed in other programs.
MYSUN MOOC
MYSUN: Bringing Future Campus Today provides an innovative way for university students and staff to acquire knowledge and skills related to sustainable campus. It also open to external stakeholders seeking to continue developing their own skills through lifelong learning.
The following topics are covered:
• Module 1 - Introduction to Sustainability
• Module 2 - Sustainable Campus
• Module 3 - Water Efficiency
• Module 4 - Energy Management
• Module 5 - Waste Management
• Module 6 - Financial Sustainability
• Module 7 - Sustainable Lifestyle
Learners who receive at least 60 points out of a possible 100 will receive Certificate of Completion.
Participants in the MOOC will also be invited to join the #MYSUNCHALLENGE on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok), where they can highlight aspects of their campus that are sustainable, or raise a flag for aspects that need to be changed to make the campus more sustainable.
The MOOC will run from 15.10.2022 – 31.12.2022. We invite all interested in university campuses’ sustainability & energy efficiency to join our online course and spread the work about #sustainablecampus.
