UUM ONLINE: Ipoh - Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) has once again demonstrated its dedication to environmental sustainability by receiving the prestigious Appreciation Award for Active Involvement in Environmental Initiatives at the WMAM Annual Conference 2023, which was aptly themed ‘Green Technology & Circular Economy for a Sustainable Future’, recently.
The award, bestowed by the Waste Management Association of Malaysia (WMAM), is a recognition of UUM's unwavering dedication to green initiatives.
The Vice-Chancellor of UUM, Prof. Dr. Mohd Fo'ad Sakdan, graciously accepted the honour. Under his leadership, UUM has spearheaded innovative environmental efforts, including the establishment of a ground breaking Drive-Thru Recycle Centre (DTRC UUM) on campus, which was done in collaboration with E-Idaman Sdn. Bhd.
In just three months since its launch, the DTRC UUM has accomplished remarkable results by diverting an impressive 8,985 kg of waste away from landfills. This achievement has significant conservation benefits, including the preservation of 54 trees over a year, a reduction of 2,292 hours of electricity consumption, the conservation of 503 gallons of oil, and a staggering 4.7 million gallons of water.
UUM's visionary commitment to environmental stewardship sets an inspiring example for all institutions. This recognition highlights not only UUM's dedication to a sustainable future but also its leadership in fostering green practices within the education sector and beyond.
