11 July 2023: In a celebration of innovation and sustainability, the Waste to Wealth Business Proposal Challenge culminated in a triumphant display of creativity and environmental consciousness. The competition, organized by the Centre for Testing, Measurement & Appraisal (CeTMA) in collaboration with the School of Technology Management and Logistics, was held in conjunction with the highly anticipated STML Green Carnival 2023 event.
Participants from various backgrounds came together to showcase their ingenious ideas for transforming waste into valuable resources, and the results were truly remarkable. Sponsored by EIdaman Sdn Bhd, a pioneering waste management company in northern Malaysia, the competition offered a prize money of MYR 1,000.00, encouraging the participants to put forth their best efforts.
Taking the top spot was Nur Amira Aliya Aseri, whose invention titled 'Trash can from cardboard' wowed the judges with its simplicity, practicality, and eco-friendliness. The innovative design aimed at repurposing cardboard waste for efficient and sustainable waste disposal solutions.
In the second place, Nor Ira Thaqifah Norazman's 'BioGroot' captivated the judges with its emphasis on organic waste management. The proposal aimed at utilizing biodegradable waste to produce nutrient-rich compost for agricultural purposes.
Gwena Anne Soosay secured the third place with her visionary creation, the 'Smart Trolley.' This intelligent trolley was designed to streamline waste segregation and collection processes, contributing to more effective recycling initiatives.
The event served as a testament to the power of human ingenuity in tackling environmental challenges and promoting a greener future. The winners' innovative ideas not only earned them recognition and accolades but also showcased a path towards a sustainable and prosperous society.
