2 April 2023: UUM and E-Idaman Sdn Bhd have established a new recycling center on campus, called the idamanXchange Drive Thru Recycle Centre (DTRC).
This effort aims to promote sustainability and reduce waste, in line with the University's mission to create a sustainable campus through Living Campus 2030 agenda.
The new recycling center is located in the compound of Varsity Mall and will accept a wide variety of recyclable materials, including paper, plastic, glass, and used cooking oil. Students and staff will be encouraged to make use of the recycling center by sending their recyclables to this center and transforming them into e-cash through idamanXchange app.
According to campus officials, the new recycling center will be fully operated by a team of E-Idaman’s trained staff members who will sort and process the materials before they are sent off to recycling facilities. The goal of the new recycling center is to reduce the amount of waste that the campus sends to landfills each year while providing the opportunity for the denizen and the surrounding community to generate wealth through recycling activities.
In addition to the environmental benefits of this new recycling center, UUM hopes that it will also serve as a learning opportunity for students, in particular on the importance of sustainability and the impact that their actions can have on the environment.
The new DTRC is up and running by the start of this new academic semester. UUM is encouraging all members of the campus community to get involved in the effort to reduce waste and promote sustainability.
