Leave no one behind. This main underlying spirit of United Nation Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG) 2030 is being delivered to the new intake of UUM Foundation students during their orientation week earlier this week. This group of students is in the spotlight as they are the youngest talents on campus, crème de la crème, and possess high leadership potential, thus the need to equip them with the knowledge of sustainability in its raw form, in their early years.
Realized the huge potential for this group to become the tentacles of the community outreach program, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Masnita Misiran, the Director of Centre for Testing, Measurement & Appraisal (CeTMA) delivers practical exposure and knowledge sharing on the SDG agenda in a more relatable, and active-based approach.
SDG 2030 is a UN’s collective journey that comprises the plan of action for people, the planet, and prosperity, through the mobilizing of 17 goals and 169 targets that should be immersed, integrated, and uphold globally. The 17 goals include SDG 1 No Poverty, SDG 2 Zero Hunger, SDG 3 Good Health and Well-being, SDG 4 Quality Education, SDG 5 Gender Equality, SDG 6 Clean Water and Sanitation, SDG 7 Affordable and Clean Energy, SDG 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth, SDG 9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, SDG 10 Reduced Inequalities. SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities, SDG 12 Responsible Consumption and Production, SDG 13 Climate Action, SDG 14 Life Below Water, SDG 15 Life on Land, SDG 16 Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, and SDG 17 Partnership for Goals.
Students are also exposed to the MOOC on Sustainability “MYSUN: Bringing Future Campus Today” which enables students to obtain structured content for sustainable effort on campus. This MOOC is free to access and students will be awarded a certificate of completion once they fulfill some requirements.
One of the participants, Muhammad Haziq responded that he is more that inspired to become part of a community that love a sustainable environment, while Nur Alisya Idayu feels personally empowered and would like to facilitate her other friends together in a road to a successful future that is more sustainable.
* The MOOC on Sustainability “MYSUN: Bringing Future Campus Today” is also open to the public at free cost. There are 7 modules in this course: Module 1 (Introduction to Sustainability), Module 2 (Sustainable Campus), Module 3 (Water Efficiency), Module 4 (Energy Management), Module 5 (Waste Management), Module 6 (Financial Sustainability), and Module 7 (Sustainable Lifestyle).
